Directory Celebrants in Bay of Islands
Originally from Ireland, I first came to New Zealand in 1991. After many visits and years spent in and around this beautiful country, I decided to move here in 2009 and make the beautiful Bay of Islands my home.
I am a member of Celebrants Association NZ [CANZ] and have completed courses with the Auckland Celebrant School in Celebrant Studies.
To act as your marriage celebrant, would be an honour and a privilege. I have many resources to offer you both, that will help craft your fabulous ceremony. I am organized, well-prepared and reliable, with an outgoing personality and a good sense of humour.
I look forward to meeting with you both to design your personal wedding ceremony.
Ida has energy and authenticity that made our day really special. We were very lucky to have her support us through the process. Ida is a great communicator and made organising everything from another country/time zone really easy, contributing in a collaborative style that made our ceremony special for us and our guest.

What can I say!! Ida was literally the most amazing celebrant we could have asked for. She was always so easy to contact and put so much time and effort into getting to know us to make sure our vows were perfect. She spent time going through multiple drafts and always checking in with us throughout our engagement to make sure we had everything we needed. All of our wedding guests commented on how wonderful she was and how special she made the ceremony. We’re so glad we picked her to be part of our special day ❤️

We are so fortunate to have found Ida for our elopement in NZ. From the first contact over Skype we instantly knew she was the one. Ida is kind and caring and has provided us support on every step of the way -and went over and beyond! Ida wrote a beautiful ceremony and helped us with our vows. The ceremony itself was beautiful, touching and emotional. Thank you Again, Ida-you will always have a special moment in our hearts!

Ida is absolutely total package everything wedding fabulousness! From our very first meeting the year prior at Charlottes Kitchen, we were sold on her approachability, knowlege, and overwhelming enthusiasm for helping our day happen… and happen well! Even though we planned our wedding from Australia via email and phone, nothing was a problem, silly idea or too much to ask. Through her responsiveness and well thought out guidelines, draft scripts, vendor contacts, run sheets, marriage license guidance and checklists we very early on knew it would be all ok on the day. Closer to our actual wedding, Ida provided a beautiful draft ceremony which captured everything we had told her (and some things she had just picked up getting to know us along the way!) that meant the most to us. Ida coordinated a rehearsal to put any last minute logistic fears to rest, and on the day itself became as much a welcome part of our ceremony as any guest present. Her handover to Charlottes Kitchen was seamless amd we could not recommend Ida highly enough to ensure a stress free best day of your life.

Ida was an absolutely fabulous celebrant. She really customized the service to our personality and interests and made it so special. She was super flexible and happy to help us out with vows and speeches. She was also very organized and professional - bringing the pre-filled wedding contract, portable PA system and printing off all our vows.
I would 100% recommend!!
Wedding Date: March 22, 2019
Ida is really lovely, friendly and easy going.
She nailed the relaxed vibe we were after for our wedding and was super flexible when we made heaps of changes the personalised ceremony she wrote us!
Ida supplied her own sound system, signing table & chairs which was also one less thing we had to worry about organising.
I would definitely recommend Ida to other couples.

Ida is an absolute gem. From the first time we met with Ida for a drink at the Duke of Marlborough we knew that she would be the perfect host for our wedding! Ida gave us all of the detailed information and guidance that we needed prior to the wedding - including a lovely Skype catch up. She did not push us even though we were often very late getting info to her and made it all such a lovely experience. On the day itself, Ida set the scene of our wedding, we wanted a fun, relaxed and very ‘us’ vibe for the day and for all of our guests. Ida created exactly that and created the loveliest ceremony for us about our story. Highly recommend this lovely lady, we look forward to seeing her next time we are in Russel.. From Claire and Paul

Thank you Ida for such an amazing ceremony and how easy it was to get to that point! Ida is the wedding coordinator at The Duke (our venue) and after meeting a few times it only made sense to have Ida bring our whole day together, Ida is excellent at reading people and tailored our day to exactly what she thought we would want, and she nailed it! We have had so many comments on how lovely and humorous our ceremony was. Ida is easily contactable and has fantastic resources to help make the whole process a breeze. Thank you again Ida! We love you loads! Amber & Braeden

Ida really is the complete package as a celebrant and in our minds, Ida went over and above her role and became our coordinator to make sure nothing is not considered on the day.
Ida is fun, professional, organised and extremely good at keeping up the communication leading up to the event no matter where you are based. In our case, Ida liaised beautifully with the Duke, taking the leading role in making sure not just the ceremony but also the reception went as smoothly as possible.
Lastly what impressed us the most was how keen Ida really is to get to know you personally as a couple. This in turn makes her a genuine personality when conducting a ceremony and not just someone standing there to tick the boxes. In fact her touch made our ceremony more beautiful and meaningful than we had imagined.
Ida - thank you so much once again. We are still smiling from ear to ear - despite the wild weather Russell threw at us that day!!!

I cannot thank Ida enough for making our wedding day one to remember. From start to finish, Ida made everything seem so easy and non-stressful. Every question I had she answered. She went over and beyond to make our day special.
Not only was she our celebrant but also our wedding planner for The Duke, I could not have asked for a better planner than her. I was fairly picky when it came to the food, any change I wanted to make she made it happen!
Once we were married and the night came to an end, up in our room waited an amazing bottle of bubbles, a package with our vows, a copy of what was said at the ceremony and an amazing card from Ida and the staff at the Duke. It was that special touch that brought a tear to my eye.
My husband and I cant thank you enough Ida!! You were truly amazing.
Thank you Jesse and Chontelle xxx

We just can’t imagine Ida not being at our wedding!
From the start to the finish Ida was well organised, transparent, clear, structured and just a pleasure to work with on our wedding.
Ida has a real strength of character which enabled us to just enjoy our day knowing that she would bring together a ceremony and reception which was uniquely us.
I would highly recommend Ida to anyone looking to get married in Russell or further abroad.
Wedding Date: February 23, 2018
We first met Ida via Skype as we live in Australia and were planning our NZ wedding from there. After almost 2 hours of chatting, laughing and even a few happy tears we knew there was nobody esker we wanted to marry us.
Ida is such an upbeat, positive, beaming light and a calming presence through the stress that is wedding planning and on the day.
Ida was so accommodating, so flexible and had some very wise words of advice along the way as well.
18 months later, we found ourselves back in Russell and caught up with Ida again because she’s just that special. Thank you, Ida, for being such a wonderful part of our journey.
Wedding Date: January 24, 2017
We loved Ida as soon as we met her at the Bride and Groom show, she is so passionate about what she does it made planning our day so much more exciting.
As we live in Auckland we spent most of our time communicating via email and phone, she was always very quick to respond to our questions and always did so in a very professional manner.
She made our whole planning experience so easy by her knowledge and experience and was very flexible when we requested to put our unique twist on the vows.
When the big day came, she had our whole wedding party highly entertained throughout the ceremony and I loved how she incorporated her Irish twist at the end.
I highly recommend Ida, you would be in good hands if you chose her.
Wedding Date: March 10, 2018
Our Wedding was nearly 2 years in the planning and we made contact with Ida quite early on. We found Ida brilliant right from the very start - from our initial phone contact, to planning ideas, our face-to-face meetings, to the day of our Wedding. We loved Ida’s accent and thought it would fit in well with our wish to include and acknowledge both our cultural links - including our links to Ireland. At our first meeting with Ida - we loved her wicked sense of humour, professionalism, energy and enthusiasm - she put us at ease straight away. Throughout the planning of our Wedding Ida was always available if we needed her support and guidance, providing us with a variety of information, from the structure of a wedding, to writing vows, to including friends and family in our ceremony, to handing over to the MC after the ceremony. We were particularly impressed with how Ida tailored our Wedding Ceremony to suit us as a couple whilst including our individual personalities, cultural links, and the information she had gathered about us from our initial contact through to our Wedding day. We also had a number of our guests comment on how great Ida was and how much they loved the ceremony. They loved Ida’s sense of humour and easy going personality, yet found her professional and approachable. We consider Ida a friend and would highly recommend her to anyone getting married.

Apart from being a fabulous celebrant, Ida is a beautiful human being. She is friendly, relaxed, super helpful and is a joy to be around. We only had the chance to meet once (about a year prior to our wedding) before we came back to Australia, which also meant planning our wedding from afar. Having only visited the area briefly on holiday planning our special day was made that much easier with Ida on the team. Not only did she put so much time and effort into making our ceremony so personalised and beautiful she also was extremely helpful when recommending other local services to help make our day perfect. And when it got closer to the big day she took all the stress out of finalising the finer details of our ceremony and on top of all that did another personalised ceremony for my parents as they renewed their vows as it was their 35th wedding anniversary!!! Ida made our day extra special and I could not have wanted anyone else marrying us, she is a total gem.
Thank you so much for all your support and kindness over our special weekend, we honestly loved having you be apart of our day. Look forward to catching up next time we are back in the north X

Ida was absolutely fantastic, I would not have any trouble recommending her, she made our day stress free and answered any question we had leading up, she makes you feel as though you’ve known her forever. Thank you so so much Ida we greatly appreciate the role you played in getting us married. Would love to catch up next time we are in the Bay.

Ida is fantastic. Me and my wife travelled all the way from England to wed in beautiful NZ. This meant we had to do all of our arrangements over email and Skype. Quite a daunting challenge for mere mortals but not for Ida. Over our emails I was convinced she was the celebrant for us and Skype just confirmed this for me. So down to Earth and honest. I sent Ida our background story over email and the way she converted that information into our beautiful wedding service was hard for me to get my head round. If ever a human being had found their calling in life it is Ida. She was so helpful in organising our day and yet still so laid back in her approach. She helped calm my wife’s fears the day before our wedding at our first meeting, as the weather wasn’t looking too good. I honestly cannot say enough about this amazing lady and all that she did to make our day the best we could ask for! Including travelling to the remote beach my wife had chosen using google maps to research the best time for tides and sunshine!! We will be back one day and will most definitely be popping in to see Ida to thank her again.
If you are looking for a celebrant that is creative and caring. That really goes the extra mile and connects with you. Then Ida is perfection.

Ida is amazing! She was thorough with providing information from the get go. Her witty, hilarious, and calm mannerism helped to keep my nervousness in check. During the ceremony said some hilarious things that totally made our ceremony relaxed. We will forever be grateful for a memorable ceremony that will be talked about for years to come.
Thank you Ida

Ida saved our wedding day!
When we first met Ida she stood out from the other celebrants. She was friendly, knowledgeable and easy to talk to about anything we needed.
From the beginning she was able to tell us all that we needed to know about arranging the marriage license and even sent reminders to make sure that we did the necessary paperwork. Unfortunately, as we were in the midst of moving from Auckland to the Bay of Islands and trying to entertain family and friends from Ireland as they arrived to New Zealand, we we somehow managed to forget to pick up the marriage license in Auckland before heading up to the Bay of Islands for Christmas and the wedding a few days later. As we arrived in the Bay, we started going through out checklist of things we needed to sort before meeting Ida the next day and we realized that we had forgotten to pick up the license. As the Births, Deaths and Marriages (BDM) office in Auckland was closing for the Christmas break 30 minutes after we realized, we were not able to get a hold of anyone to arrange it to be delivered to us. We went into panic mode as we realized that we were not going to be able to become husband and wife on the day our friends and family were all coming to celebrate with us.
After a while of coming to terms with the fact that we were not going to be married on our wedding day, we mustered the strength to call Ida and let her know that she wouldn’t be officiating over a marriage but instead it would have to be a commitment ceremony. When Ida answered the phone we let her know the situation and her words to us will stick with me forever. “Thats OK. We’re still going to be able to have a legal wedding”. Once we heard Ida say those words and Ida’s plan for resolving the issue we both cried tears of relief/joy. Ida was calm and collected, knew just how to remedy the situation and put our minds at ease. Ida took it on herself to get in touch with her contacts and found out that we may be able to arrange an emergency marriage license the day before our wedding as the office of BDM would be open for emergency matters after the public holidays were over.
The day before our wedding, Ida was in touch with the people at BDM and had arranged that all we needed to do was re-submit the paperwork via email and we would have the emergency license that day. Later that day when it came through we were elated and couldn’t thank Ida enough for helping us through that speed bump before the wedding.
On the day of the wedding, I arrived at the wedding venue to find Ida ready and waiting, before any guests had arrived and eager to get the wedding started. She was extremely professional through the whole process and when it came to the ceremony, it was exactly how we had planned. We cannot fault Ida in any way. She was amazing and saved our day!
Thank you again Ida for helping us through the tough time and making our day happen!

From the moment me and my now husband met Ida she was extremely welcoming. Straight away you could sense her fun and humorous take on life, and this really put us at ease. We knew she was the celebrant for us at the very first meeting to discuss our wedding at The Duke of Marlborough.
She did a wonderful job of personalising our wedding ceremony, it was all the little things she did including quoting our favourite movie, and providing the bridal party with a hip flask of Irish Whiskey during the ceremony.
We could not recommend her highly enough. She is fantastic, has a great sense of humour, Just to see how she would react, my husband informed her that we had decided to have a nudist wedding. Without blinking or any hesitation, her response was “That is absolutely fine . . . but I won’t be”
Thank you Ida for making our day truely special, and for being absolutely wonderful in the time leading up to our wedding as well.
